Specialty Glaze of the Month - March 2013
March, in my mind, is the bringer of spring. It’s the month when all of the bulbs in my gardens start to poke up through the brown dirt and give me hope for warmer weather. Spring is also when I start to Raku again. And Raku makes me happy. So I was particularly excited for the return of the Raku Glaze of the month. For the first one in 2013, I chose AMACO’s bright and sunny Yellow Crackle. It’s a beautiful and subtle shade of yellow and the crackle is excellent. As usual, I tested the glaze in a variety of reduction materials and found very little difference in the outcome of the glaze. There were some minimal variations in the smokiness of the yellow, with the fine sawdust producing a rather interesting ombre gradient.
